MTN | Dons Drop Heartbreaker at LMU

LOS ANGELES - The University of San Francisco men's tennis team opened the weekend in Southern California with a match against Loyola Marymount today. After notching the doubles point, the Dons couldn't maintain control and ultimately fell 3-4.

"Overall, I am proud of the way the Dons fought in this match," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "We have a standard physically and mentally that is going to make us better every match. Today, the LMU team stayed in match and we made too many errors. We need to fix some things up and we will be way better."

USF was off to a great start against LMU when it took the doubles point. Johan Garpered and David Woodland dropped their match 1-6, but Nitzan Ricklis and Ori Maior came back with a 6-2 win on their court. Paul Giraud and Phuc Huynh clinched the doubles point with a nail biting 7-5 win.

LMU tied up the score 1-1 after Giraud dropped his match 1-6, 4-6 and the Lions took the lead when Maior fell 3-6, 3-6 on his court. The score was tied at 2-2 when Mitch Johnson took down his opponent 0-6, 6-3, 6-2, but Huynh lost 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 on his court and LMU was back in the lead.

The Lions clinched the match after Garpered fell 2-6, 7-6, 2-6 and while Ricklis had a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win on his court, the Dons had fallen 3-4 to LMU.
