TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of San Francisco men's tennis team started its weekend on a tough note in Tucson, dropping its match against Arizona, 1-6.
"Arizona got the Dons today with more solid doubles and edged us out in singles," said head coach
Pablo Pires de Almeida. "We need to be cleaner in our doubles tomorrow [against Grand Canyon University] and more competitive at the bottom of the lineup in singles."
All doubles pairs for the Dons managed to win a few sets in their matches, but ultimately all fell to their opponents and the doubles point went to the Wildcats.
In singles, the Dons battled hard on their courts, but still fell short. After USF dropped its matches on courts No. 5, No. 6, No. 3, and No. 1, respectively, Arizona was already leading 5-0. The Dons were able to get a point on the board when Ori Maior defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-2, but it was not enough — Arizona had captured the win on court No. 2 and and defeated USF 6-1.
