MTN | Dons Prepare for Match Against Boise State

SAN FRANCISCO - The University of San Francisco men's tennis team is at the Cal Club with weekend for a match against Boise State (Feb. 16). First serve is slated for noon PT.

"The Dons look forward to playing again at home this weekend and face a very strong team," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "Our guys are hungry and we will be ready for a great battle."

LAST TIME OUT
The Dons had a tough match against California, falling 4-0 to the Golden Bears in Berkeley.

Cal clinched the doubles point as pairs Phuc Huynh and Mitch Johnson (2-6), and Paul Giraud and Ori Maior (1-6) fell on their courts.

The match came to an end early when Nitzan Ricklis (0-6, 1-6) and Johnson (1-6, 1-6) fell on their courts. Garpered also fell 2-6, 1-6 and Cal clinched the 4-0 win. The rest of the singles went unfinished.

LAST TIME OUT VS. BOISE STATE
USF and Boise State last squared off in the 2015-2016 season. In that match, the Dons fell 3-4, bringing their win-loss record against the Broncos to 0-4.

The Dons started the match against Boise State by dropping the doubles point, and fell even more behind in singles dropping straight sets on two courts.

Former Don Ryan Marker came back with a win on his court and the Dons had two more match wins in singles to tie it up at 3-3. Coming down to the last match, former Don Thomas Takemoto took his match to the third set, but couldn't come up with a win and the Dons ultimately fell to Boise State.

Currently, the Broncos are 5-2 on the season going into the weekend.

Since the Dons clinched a 4-1 win against UC Irvine, Ricklis' match against Mateusz Smolicki went unfinished at 7-5, 3-6, 3-3. Ricklis' record is currently 4-2 going into the weekend:
  • Against Loyola Marymount (Jan. 18): Ricklis def. Mayo Keenan; 3-6, 7-5, 6-3
  • Against Pepperdine (Jan. 19): Ricklis def. Corrado Summaria; 6-2, 5-7, 6-1
  • Against UC Davis (Jan. 23): Ricklis def. Ivan Thamma; 7-6, 6-2
  • Against Grand Canyon (Feb. 1): Ricklis def. Lorenzo Fucile: 3-1

The Dons will be in Santa Barbara, Calif. for a match against UCSB on Sunday, February 23. Time is set for 1 p.m. PT.
