SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco women's tennis team grabbed its first win in dual matches this season, defeating Sacramento State 6-1 on Saturday, February 1.
"The Dons had a good win against a very tough Sacramento State team," said head coach
Peter Bartlett. "I was really pleased with our team on how we handled the pressure of closing out sets and eventually matches. We were able to fight off some competitive nerves at the beginning of the match to prevail in the end."
After dropping the first doubles match, the Dons rallied back with wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2 to snag the doubles point and gain a 1-0 going into singles.
USF continued its momentum and extended its lead to 5-0 with wins on courts No. 4, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 1 at the start of singles. Sacramento State was able to get a point on the board with a match win, but
Emily Maxfield sealed the 6-1 victory for the Dons when she won her match in a tiebreaker set.
