CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team finished the tournament with a 1-under 863 – their first tournament under par since the 2019 WCC Championships. The Dons had two golfers finish in the top-5 and were led by senior
Tim Widing who captured his second career individual championship.
"This was a fantastic week for us," said head coach
Jack Kennedy. "We came in very confident that we could compete with a beat the best teams in the country. Tim was our leader again this week and it was very special to watch him come away with a win. This is one of the best individual victories in USF history."
Competing in a field that featured nine teams in the top-50 and many of the top players in the nation, Widing and the Dons finished strong - shooting an even par 288 in the final round. For the tournament the Dons went 291-284-288 to finish 1-under.
Widing was sensational. The senior followed up his 5-under day yesterday with a second-consecutive 3-under 69 to finish the tournament with an 8-under 208 (70-69-69). It is the second time this year he has finished a tournament under par in all three rounds. The other time came in the Oregon State Invitational. The 208 is also the fourth lowest round of his career.
Soren Lind finished in second for the Dons and recorded his first top-10 finish of the season and seventh in his career. Lind finished tied for fifth with a 3-under 213 (69-70-74). His 14 birdies is a season-high.
Toby Briggs climbed eight spots on the leaderboard on the final day to finish tied for 34
th. After opening the tournament with an 8-over 80 in the first round, he recorded back-to-back rounds under par to finish the tournament with a 3-over 219 (80-69-70).
Matthew Anderson took fourth for the Dons with an 8-over 224 (72-76-76) which placed him tied for 65
th.
Alex Chin finished the tournament in 95
th with a 17-over 233 (82-76-75).
No. 37 Tennessee took home the team title, shooting an 8-under 856 (285-291-280).
The Dons return to action on Monday, Mar. 30 when they travel to Chambers Bay Golf Club to participate in the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Seattle.
