Three Teams Earn NCAA Public Recognition

INDIANAPOLIS – Three teams from the University of San Francisco athletics department have received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards, as announced by the NCAA.

"This recognition is one of my favorites to see each year, and is one of the celebrations of our student-athletes' success that brings our departmental values to the forefront," said Director of Athletics Joan McDermott. "I am extremely proud of these three programs and the coaches, faculty, and staff who help our students achieve the ultimate goal of succeeding in the classroom while maintaining their edge during competition."

The three teams (two women's, one men's) posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all programs in their respective sports.

USF's three teams receiving Public Recognition Awards are men's soccer, women's golf, and beach volleyball. This is the fourth consecutive year that women's golf has earned this distinction.

Full APR scores are set to be released publicly by the NCAA on Tuesday, May 19.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 academic years.
