MGOLF | Tim Widing Returning For Historic Fifth Season

SAN FRANCISCO – University of San Francisco men's golfer Tim Widing is returning for an unprecedented fifth season.  The senior from Jonkoping, Sweden is utilizing the NCAA's provision allowing a fifth year of eligibility for student-athletes who saw their season canceled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

"I'm obviously very excited to come back for another year, especially considering our strong performance in the two events we were able to play in the spring," said Widing. "We have a lot of unfinished business to take care of, and with the addition of another Swede to the team (Viktor Hagborg Asp) I believe we're going to have the best season ever performed by a USF golf team. We're a great group of guys who all want the same thing, and that is to win tournaments, many of them. I have been working hard during these Covid-19 times and I will be more than ready to start again whenever that may be. Go Dons!"

Widing, already one of the most decorated athletes in USF history, is one of just three players in men's golf history to earn First Team All-WCC honors three times.  In 2020 he was going for a program-record fourth--the 2020 Ping All-West Region honoree boasted 11 rounds under par in 2019-20 and had three top-10 finishes, including an individual championship at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic.

"We are excited to welcome Tim back for a fifth year!" said head coach Jack Kennedy. "The way last year ended left Tim feeling there was some unfinished business for him at USF, and he felt excited about the opportunity to return. With the addition of Tim and Viktor, we have quite the group, and expectations will be very high."

Widing will lead a deep core that includes upperclassmen Toby Briggs, Alex Chin, and Soren Lind, as well as Matthew Anderson and Christoffer Palsson. In six tournaments in 2019-20, the group combined to record ten top-10 finishes and 31 rounds at par or better.
