MBB | Dons Sign NorCal Player of the Year Anthony Roy

SAN FRANCISCO – Second-year head coach Todd Golden is pleased to announce the addition of Anthony Roy (Dublin HS/Oakland, Calif.), who has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Dons. The 2019-20 NorCal Player of the Year will join Samba Kane, Maj Dusanic, and Julian Rishwain as the 2020-21 recruiting class.

"We are very happy to welcome Anthony into our program here on the Hilltop," said Golden. "It has been a goal of ours to recruit local student-athletes when they fit into the fabric of our program.  Anthony, being the 2020 NorCal POY, and being born and raised in San Francisco before moving to Oakland at age 10, certainly fits the bill.  He is a talented all-around basketball player that impacts the game in many ways.  He is a skilled player who can really dribble, pass, and shoot.  He has good defensive instincts that allow him to take advantage of his size and length.  He will be able to play multiple positions, and will make our team and program better."

Roy was the breakout prep player of the year in 2019-20 and was named First Team All-Bay Area by Bay Area Newsgroup. The SportsStars NorCal Player of the Year had a tremendous senior campaign in which he earned East Bay Athletic League Player of the Year honors, after more than doubling his scoring output.

The Dublin High School product is a two-time letter winner who blossomed in his final prep year.  Following the transfer of the Gaels' only all-conference player from the 2018-19 squad, Roy took over a leadership role and helped guide his team to an EBAL Championship and the North Coast Section Championship before falling to Sheldon-Sacramento by one point in the NorCal Open semifinals.

In 62 career games, Roy averaged 13.5 points per game, 2.0 assists per game, and 4.4 rebounds per game.  His junior year he averaged 9.1 PPG and 1.5 APG, with 3.3 RPG. He took off the following year, finishing with 552 points, good for an average of 17.8, and added in 2.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 48 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc.
