SAN FRANCISCO – Michelle (Duncan) Lowenberg truly personifies USF's mantra of giving back to the community. In this week's edition of Tuesday Testimonials, USF Senior Associate Athletics Director,
Frank Allocco, talks with Lowenberg to discuss how her time at USF shaped her life on and off the tennis court.
The two begin the episode by talking about Lowenberg's beginnings in the sport. She picked tennis up at age two or three thanks to the influence of her older sister, who preceded her in collegiate tennis-playing at Santa Clara.
Allocco goes on to ask about the influence of her high school years. Lowenberg credits her prep years as the foundation for her experiences at USF.
The two chat about her time on the Hilltop, specifically the profound influence head coach Hilary Somers had on her, along with a Spanish professor who helped influence Lowenberg to spend a summer volunteering in Ecuador.
The episode concludes with Lowenberg discussing her involvement with Operation Rainbow, where she has served as the executive director of the last five years. Operation Rainbow is a nonprofit organization dedicated to performing free orthopedic surgery for indigent children and young adults in developing countries worldwide who do not have access to related medical procedures or equipment.
