SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced the recipients of the 2021 women's soccer all-conference team recipients from the fall season. Dons' freshman forward Marissa Vasquez was selected to the All-WCC second team after a stellar first season on the Hilltop, while fellow freshman Elle Soleau was selected to the all-freshman team.
Rounding out the list of Dons' award recipients were senior goalkeeper Molly Eby and freshman defender Kenna Roth both of which were honorable mentions.
"All four players had outstanding years for us," head coach Jim Millinder said. "Marissa Vasquez was the teams leading scorer and has a very bright future in the game. She is a very good player and has the ability to release other players and score goals."
Vasquez led the Dons' offense throughout the season as she led the team in goals (four) and points (11), while also finishing tied for the team lead in assists (three). It was a phenomenal debut season for Diamond Bar, Calif. native and the program looks forward to seeing what she accomplishes next season.
"Molly Eby had an outstanding season for us and made so many incredible saves to keep us in games," Millinder said. "We're all very excited for her as she closes out her career."
Eby capped off her phenomenal career leading the WCC in saves while posting six shutouts for a USF team whose defense was stellar throughout the season. She became a wall in-goal and had a 13 save game against Stanford and delivered a clean sheet at home while facing the defending national champions Santa Clara right before the beginning of conference play.
"Kenna is an unsung hero as most defenders are she quietly denies offensive attacks and shuts down quality forwards, she is a leader with lots of ability," Millinder said.
Roth was a key anchor to the defense as she limited the opponent's potential attacks while contributing two goals and four points for her first season of collegiate soccer.
Finally, Soleau is the final athlete to be honored and the third freshman Don to be selected as the program is boasting an exciting young core. Soleau finished her freshman season with two goals and one assist for a total of five points to begin her USF career.
"Elle being recognized to the all-freshman team just acknowledges the outstanding year she had," Millinder said. "She made an immediate impact the first day she stepped onto the field, she can score goals and has lots of skill to make things happen in the open field."
"I'm proud of all of the them! Our conference is so tough and has many quality players."
