USF Fights Hard in Loss to Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. – Coming out of the gates, the USF Dons women's basketball team (4-4) were ready to play early as they played with tremendous fight before coming up short against the Washington State Cougars (5-1) 72-58 at Beasley Coliseum.

The Dons received great performances from their back court as Ioanna Krimili, Jasmine Gayles and Amalie Langer each scored in double figures against Washington State. Krimili once again led the team with 17 points, with Gayles not far behind with 15 and Langer right there as well with 14 points.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • USF got off to a fast start on the Palouse as they built a 16-11 lead through strong work on the defensive end and efficient shooting from three-point distance.
  • The Dons built on their lead in the second quarter pushing it up to as many as 12 points over WSU before the Cougars flexed their muscles just before halftime/.
  • Washington State came out of the break with a three-point advantage and used their size to take control of the game.
  • The Cougars were able to come away with the double digit victory on Thursday afternoon as they remain perfect in their home building so far this season.
 NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Jasmine Gayles came out of the gates hot as she scored nine points in the first quarter as she finished with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting.
  • Overcoming a slow start, Ioanna Krimili finished with 17 points, with 13 of them coming in the second half of play.
  • Amalie Langer was an aggressive force on the offensive end as she finished with 15 total points and made seven of the eight free throws she attempted in the game.
UP NEXT:
The Dons will now head south for their third Pac-12 opponent of the season as they will travel to Los Angeles for a meeting with the USC Trojans (4-2). Sunday afternoon's game will be the first meeting between the two schools since the Dons won 72-53 during the 2002-03 season.
