BANDON, Ore. – After 18 holes, the University of San Francisco men's golf team sits atop the leaderboard after the Dons finished 10-under as a team. USF had three players finish in the top-10 in the opening round and are currently tied with Utah at the Bandon Dunes Championship.
Battling cold and overcast weather, the Dons finished the day with a 10-under 274 at the par-71 Bandon Dunes Golf Club. USF finished the round with 23 birdies as a team.
Soren Lind and Christoffer Palsson are currently tied for fourth, with senior Tim Widing tied for seventh. The individual co-leaders are Oregon's Nate Stember and Long Beach State's Tyler Schafer who both shot 5-under 66s.
Lind had a tremendous round to finish the day with a 4-under 67. He opened up on the back nine with three straight pars before carding a bogey on 13. He then went birdie-par-birdie to get to 1-under heading to 17. A bogey there saw him even at the turn. On the final nine holes, Lind was dialed in. After a par on the first hole, he carded birdies on five of the next six holes to go five under.
Palsson also had a string of birdies. His came on holes 14, 15, 16, and 17 after opening the day with a bogey on 12. A bogey on his final hole knocked him out of a three-way tie at first.
Widing opened his stellar round with a birdie on nine, he finished the traditional back-9 at one under thanks to eight pars and a birdie on 12. On the front-9 a bogey on four was the lone blemish on his scoreboard.
