MTEN | Dons Beat Bulldogs to Sweep the Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco men's tennis team made it a weekend sweep Saturday, as they won their second consecutive West Coast Conference match with a 4-0 sweep of Gonzaga at the California Tennis Club.

San Francisco (7-6, 2-3 WCC) won the doubles point to start off the match with a 1-0 lead, then got singles wins at the No. 1, 2 and 6 spots to complete the sweep.

"The guys came out with great energy from the start of the warm-up and they left it all out on the court for our senior Paul," said San Francisco head coach JT Sundling. "We look to keep the momentum rolling in Utah."

Senior Paul Giraud was playing in his final home match as a Don Saturday, and he was a winner, sweeping his No. 2 singles match over Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja, 6-2, 6-4. He also played at No. 1 doubles against the Bulldogs (11-8, 0-4 WCC) with partner Ori Maior, but the match went unfinished after the Dons clinched the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.

Stevie Gould and Phuc Huynh earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over the Gonzaga duo of Leon Roider and Trkulja. The USF pair of Johan Garpered and Nitzan Ricklis won, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles to give the Dons the early 1-0 match lead. Ricklis won his second straight match at No. 1 singles, beating Matthew Hollingworth in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Mitch Johnson also added his second singles win of the weekend, sweeping Theo McDonald, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 6 spot.

San Francisco next goes on the road to face Pac-12 Conference member Utah on Thursday and WCC foe BYU on Friday.
