PROVO, Utah — The University of San Francisco men's tennis team fell at the West Coast Conference's first-place team BYU Friday, 4-0, at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.
Â
Johan Garpered and
Nitzan Ricklis completed a 2-0 week with their second consecutive win in as many days at No. 3 doubles. They swept the Cougars' Brigham Andrus and Mateo Melendez with an unblemished 6-0 victory. BYU (12-5, 6-0 WCC) earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The No. 2 win didn't come easy, however, as
Stevie Gould and
Phuc Huynh pushed BYU's Sean Hill and Sam Tullis to a tiebreaker, eventually falling 7-6 (7-1).
Â
The Cougars took singles wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 to clinch the win. Huynh was on his way to forcing a third set, up 5-4 in the second before the match went unfinished.
Â
"BYU was too tough for us today," said San Francisco head coach
JT Sundling. "We look forward to finishing our season strong against Santa Clara next week."
Â
San Francisco closes out its season on April 24th on the road at Santa Clara.
