SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Playing in the afternoon group in the second round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club, the University of San Francisco men's golf team once again had to battle temperatures that hit triple digits. A difficult front nine overshadowed a strong back nine by the Dons, who finished the second round with a 19-over 299 to finish the day in 30
th.
Low scores continue to elude the Dons after 36 holes. USF just couldn't get the birdie putts to fall, settling for tap-in par putts. USF struggled in the early going, shooting 13-over at the turn, on the back nine the Dons played much better golf, building momentum for a strong round on Sunday.
After two days, USF sits at 40-over with a 600 (301-299).
Soren Lind is the Dons' leader after two rounds. He's currently sitting in a tie for 71
st after shooting a 6-over 76. For the tournament, Lind is 6-over at 146 (70-76).
Tim Widing is in second for USF, he's tied at 93
rd after climbing 35 spots on the leaderboard on the second day. Widing finished the second round with a 1-over 71, for the tournament he has an 8-over 148 (77-71).
Widing's strong round began with a par on the first hole and a birdie on two. Bogeys on four and eight had him 1-over at the turn. On the back nine a bogey on 18 made him even heading into the clubhouse.
Toby Briggs climbed 14 spots on the leaderboard after shooting a 4-over 74. He opened with a 2-over on the front and finished 2-over on the back. After 36 holes, Briggs has an 11-over 151 (77-74).
Christoffer Palsson is in fourth place for the Dons, he's tied for 141
st after shooting an 8-over 78. After two days, Palsson is 15-over with a 155 (77-78).
Matthew Anderson is tied for 151
st with a 21-over 161 (78-83).
Oklahoma State is the leader after two rounds, the Cowboys finished the second day with a 6-under 274 as a team. After two days they are 6-under 554 (280-274).
SMU and Georgia are tied for 16th, the two teams at the cutline are 21-over. The top-15 teams from tomorrow's round will advance to the final stroke play round on Monday.
The Dons tee off tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 p.m. from the first tee. The Dons will be partnered with Little Rock and Liberty. Live results for Sunday's round can be found at Golfstat.com
