SAN FRANCISCO — Distance runner
Aoibhe Richardson is once again set to compete for a National Championship. This time, the native of Kilkenny, Ireland, will be competing in the 5,000 meters in the outdoor national championships.
No stranger to big meets, Richardson is going for her third All-American honors, having already achieved that lofty title in cross country in 2019 and indoors in 2020.
Richardson qualified for the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships by placing among the top-12 at the NCAA West Preliminary Meet at Texas A&M University's E.B. Cushing Stadium.
Richardson's qualifying run is made even more impressive because just 48 hours earlier, she was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion after dropping out of the 10,000 meters in the Texas heat.
Richardson finished 11th to grab one of the top-12 qualifying spots for the national championships. She and the rest of the field will race at 4:55 p.m. on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
