MBB | Dons Sign Forward Ndewedo Newbury for 2021-22

SAN FRANCISCO – Third year head coach Todd Golden is pleased to announce the addition of Ndewedo Newbury (Loomis Chaffee School/London, England), who has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Dons for the 2021-22 season.

"We are really excited to add Ndewedo Newbury to our program here on the Hilltop," said Golden. "Ndewedo has great upside, and many indicators point to him becoming very successful both on and off the floor.  He has great strength and athleticism allowing him to play both the 4 and 5.  He has the ability to score the ball from different levels, and has good ball-handling skills.  He is a high-character student-athlete who owns an academic profile on par with Ivy and Patriot League admittance, and we are grateful that he chose to come to the Hilltop."

Newbury, a native of Tottenham, London, spent two seasons playing for Haringey College before finishing his prep career at The Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut. A two-time letter winner for the Hawks and coach Franck Batimba, he showed a natural ability to score and rebound.

In 2018-19 as a 16 year old, he averaged 14.2 points per contest, while grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game. The following season he increased those numbers, averaging 23.4 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game, while boasting 1.6 blocks per contest. He finished the year taking home Academy Basketball League (ABL) Eastern MVP honors

COVID-19 halted his playing career at The Loomis Chaffee School, but he has excelled in the camp and AAU scene. Newbury was named a Camp All-Star and the No. 7 prospect at the Deng Camp in the UK. The Deng Camp is run by former NBA player Luol Deng, it is a residential camp that takes the top-50 U19 players in the UK.

At the camp, he averaged 11.4 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, 1.0 assists per game, all while shooting 53.3 percent from the field. The camp went on to say this about Newbury "Shows exceptional athleticism, quickness and the ability to guard multiple positions. Can score the basket through contact, very active on the glass and plays with great energy."

Newbury joins a talented incoming group for the Dons that includes graduate transfers Yauhen Massalski from San Diego, Zane Meeks from Nevada, Gabe Stefanini from Columbia, and Patrick Tapé from Duke.
