SAN FRANCISCO – First year head coach Chris Brown is pleased to announce the addition of midfielder Ferdaus "Ferdy" Ghafury (Gemeinschaftsschule Friedrichsort/Boppard, Germany) who signed a scholarship agreement to attend the University of San Francisco for this fall.
"Ferdy has a lot of qualities we look for in a player," said Brown. "He comes from the highest possible amateur level in Germany before professional soccer. He is an extremely technical soccer player and is equally as dynamic. He will be a big time addition to our attack and our team."
The 5-foot, 6-inch, attacking midfielder and winger played four years for Mainz 05 at the academy level. In 2016 he led his squad to a championship in the B-Junior Regional, scoring the game's opening goal in the fourth minute.
He moved on, playing for FC Ingolstadt at the U17 level. Last season he played for at the U19 level in the Bundesliga, scoring a goal and tallying two assists in four matches played for KSV Holstein Kiel. He was later promoted through a contract with KSV Holstein Kiel's second team U23 squad.
Ghafury will join newcomer Tobias Wangerud as newcomers to the squad for the 2021 season. The Dons kick off their campaign officially on Thursday, Aug. 27 against Sacramento State at Negoesco Stadium.
