SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the seventh consecutive year, the University of San Francisco athletics department achieved high levels of success in the classroom. The Dons had 162 students named to the annual West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor roll, the sixth time in the last seven years in which USF has had 130 or more students on the list.
Â
"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes' academic accomplishments," said Director of Athletics Joan McDermott. "This year has been challenging with so many unknowns. Our students met the challenges of 2020-21 head on and surpassed even the highest expectations. To have over three quarters of our students achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher is a testament to their hard work and dedication. And once again this year, every single one of our teams earned a GPA of at least 3.0. I also want to commend the hard work our coaches and administrators put in this difficult year in helping our student-athletes attain such academic success."
More than 1,790 student-athletes qualified for recognition, establishing a conference record for the sixth-consecutive season. It is the ninth consecutive honor roll featuring more than 1,000 WCC student-athletes. The conference recognizes those on the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll in three separate categories. Those who achieved 4.00 to 3.75 GPAs received Gold Honors. After that, 3.74 to 3.50 earned Silver Honors, and 3.49 to 3.00 were given Bronze Honors.
Each team on the Hilltop had student-athletes honored for their outstanding academic achievement, and 61 Dons represented their school in the Gold honors category, the third highest total in the WCC. USF also had 44 athletes garner Silver recognition, while 57 achieved Bronze status.
To be considered, WCC student-athletes must have earned a varsity letter in a sport which the conference determined a champion in the recently completed academic year, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 must be based on a 4.0 scale, and must have successfully completed an average of at least 12 graded credit hours (non pass-fail hours) per term.
