SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced the 2021-22 WCC slate of games for the men's basketball season Wednesday afternoon. This season marks the fourth year of the conference's 16-game format, in which the Dons will play 16 total contests comprised of eight road games and eight games on the Hilltop.
Year three of the
Todd Golden era promises to be exciting. USF returns an exciting core that includes fifth year senior
Jamaree Bouyea and juniors
Khalil Shabazz and
Dzmitry Ryuny. Nine letter winners in all, including four starters from last year's team, return. The Dons also boast the addition of an exciting group of newcomers, giving USF one of its deepest teams in recent memory.
In 2021-22, USF will once again have key home and road contests against Gonzaga, BYU, Saint Mary's, and Santa Clara. The Dons will play just one contest against Loyola Marymount and Pacific this season.
USF will be challenged immediately when conference play opens this year, with a New Year's date in Moraga taking on the Gaels on Saturday, Jan. 1. The following week, USF will travel to Spokane to take on Gonzaga on Thursday, Jan. 6 before making their WCC home debut against San Diego on Saturday, Jan. 8.
The following week, the Dons will stay at home, facing Loyola Marymount on Thursday, Jan. 13 and BYU on Saturday, Jan. 15.
Thursday, Jan. 20 the Dons will travel to the Rose City to take on the Pilots before traveling to Southern California to take on Pepperdine in Malibu on Saturday, Jan. 22. USF will wrap up January at home against rivals Saint Mary's and Santa Clara on Thursday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 29.
The Dons will play seven games in February, starting with a trip to Provo, Utah to battle the Cougars at the Marriott Center on Thursday, Feb. 3. The Dons will host Portland that Saturday, Feb. 5, as part of a WCC double header with the women's team, which hosts Pepperdine.
USF's final three games will begin on Thursday, Feb. 17 when the Dons travel to Stockton to take on the Tigers. Gonzaga will come to the Hilltop in what promises to be a very exciting Senior Night on Thursday, Feb. 24. USF wraps up the regular season in San Diego taking on the Toreros on Saturday, Feb. 26.
