SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. -- As the best and the brightest of the college tennis world arrived in the Bay Area for the 2021 Battle in the Bay Classic hosted by the University of San Francisco. Following a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, some of the best programs around the west stocked with talent from around the world made their way to California Tennis Club for the action.
For the Dons,
Stevie Gould and
Mitch Johnson had strong weekends on the court, with each winning a match individually as well as when the two were paired up for doubles. The format of the classic allowed student athletes to represent their home nations as well as their universities, and provided opportunities for student athletes to play with their fellow countrymen from different schools.Â
USF wil return to the courts for the UCSB Classic on Friday Oct. 8. The Dons will travel down the coast to Santa Barbara as their fall season reaches the midway point of the schedule.
CATCHING UP WITH COACH SUNDLING:
"Battle in the Bay is such a high quality event and we were super excited to be able to host/compete in it again this year. It is the perfect way for us to start off the fall and get the Dons some extremely competitive matches right out of the gate. We look forward to taking what we learned as a team in this tournament and build from it."Â
