SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The University of San Francisco women's basketball program and head coach
Molly Goodenbour officially announced the commitment of 6'1" forward Edessa Noyan of Sodertalje, Sweden on Wednesday morning.Â
"Edessa is going to strengthen our forward position," Goodenbour said. "Physically she is strong and tough and plays aggressively and instinctively around the basket. We love her style of play and her competitiveness and we know she will be someone who will transition well to NCAA basketball. She competes with her club Sodertalje against top level players in Sweden and we are excited for her to get to USF to play for us."
The leading scorer and rebounder for the Swedish U18 National Team that won the 2022 Nordic Championships, Noyan shined representing her country on the circuit as she averaged 18.8 PPG to go along with nine rebounds. Her breakout performance in the championships was a 26 point and nine rebound output as Sweden came away with a one point victory over Finland.Â
"Edessa is one of the best forwards in the '23 class in Europe and she proved that by leading Sweden to win the Nordic Championship this past summer as their leading scorer and rebounder," assistant coach
Arthur Moreira said. "She is physically ready for college basketball and is used to competing at a high level against older players. Her team, Sodertalje is competing for a championship in the top women's division in Sweden. It is the same league that features USF alumni Anna Seilund (class of 2018) and Moa Lundqvist (class of 2019). Her ability to score inside and also shoot the 3 (55.9% in the European Championships) will be a perfect fit for our style of play."
Noyan led the Swedish National Team in efficiency while also serving as the team's second leading scorer and rebounder during the U18 European Championships competing in Division A. She also was a major contributor for her club team, Sodertalje which is one of the top teams in Sweden's top division. Edessa went on to averaged nine points per game on a team that featured multiple players from the Swedish senior national team.Â
