SAN MATEO, Calif. – Following the conclusion of the 2022 regular season, the West Coast Conference officially announced their annual women's volleyball honors on Monday afternoon.
For San Francisco,
Claire Crijns was named to the All-WCC Second Team while
Abby Wadas was selected as an All-WCC Honorable Mention while also earning a spot on the WCC's All-Freshman Team.
"It has been an immense pleasure to coach Claire for these past four months," said head coach
Diogo Silva. "She is a fantastic person and a natural talent to play volleyball. I am also very grateful to continue to have Abby in our program as she has the responsibility of continuing the new wave of winning in this program. She has a lot of talent both as a leader and on the court and with hard work, she will continue to be one of the best liberos in the WCC. Congratulations to these two, well done and definitely deserving."
For Crijns, the graduate student from the Netherlands dominated from the start for USF as her 320 kills, 393.5 total points, 38 services aces and 2.96 kills per set led the Dons offensively. Starting and playing in all 28 matches for the green and gold, Crijns also ranked in the top ten in the conference in service aces (fifth) kills (seventh), points (seventh), service aces per set (0.35, ninth) and sets played (108, ninth). Primarily playing the right side, Crijns also tallied 202 total digs and 65.0 total blocks, including six solo blocks.
For Wadas, the McKinney, Texas native stepped right into an important role for USF in her first year on the Hilltop as she started and played in all 28 matches for USF this season as well. Impressively, her 414 digs were good for the team lead while also ranking her third overall in the WCC in this category. Additionally, her 3.80 digs per set also paced the Dons while placing her third in the WCC. Notably, her 109 sets played also tied with teammate
Orsula Staka for fifth-most in the conference.
