DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Last week at home the Dons finished with a perfect 3-0 record and Ioanna Krimili was named WCC Player of the Week as she knocked down the USF record for made three point shots on Monday 11/21 recording eight threes and scoring 35 points against Penn Quakers. Krimili also moved into 10th place in the program's all-time scoring record following her tremendous week on the Hilltop.
- Showing off her strength, Debora dos Santos was the high scorer against South Carolina State on 11/25, recording 25 points going 9-for-9 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. dos Santos was able to follow that performance by putting in 17 points in the team's impressive 24-point victory over Long Beach State to wrap up the USF Thanksgiving Classic.
- Currently the Dons have the second best record in the WCC with 5-2, just below Gonzaga on the conference standings. A key reason for USF's early season success has been their strong work on the defensive end of the floor, as they lead the conference in opponent's field goal percentage at 36.6% and they've excelled at not allowing three point makes holding teams to 24.2% from deep.
SCOUTING THE MATADORS:
- Facing tough opponents in their first weeks of play, the Matadors have come up short so far in all their games with a 0-5 record. Their last matchup was an exhibition game against University of Antelope Valley on Nov. 26 where they were able to get a win, not counting towards their record, with four players scoring in double figures for CSUN.
- Leading the team this season in points, forward Michelle Duchemin had her highest scoring game of 23 points against WCC opponent Santa Clara on Nov. 17. She currently averages 10 points per game this season. Duchemin has also done tremendous work on the boards leading her team with 5.8 rebounds per game while starting in three of her team's first five games.
- In their two most recent regular season games, the Matadors have fallen short at home against fellow WCC foe Santa Clara as well as San Jose State as CSUN is seeking their first victory of the season and on their home floor.
- The Dons and Matadors have met three previous times in each program's history, with CSUN leading the overall series two to one. USF won the last meetings between the schools during the 2019 season on the Hilltop, as Abby Rathbun had a good game with a 15 point and 10 rebound double-double while playing 39 minutes for the Dons.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS:
- After losing their first game of the season against No. 2 Stanford, the Aztecs have bounced back and are now on a six-game winning streak. Averaging 69.1 points per game as a team, the Dons will look to shut down their scoring efforts Sunday afternoon at the home of the Golden State Warriors.
- San Diego State currently has four players averaging over 10 points per game, Asia Avinger with 12.0 PPG, Mercedes Staples with 11.6 PPG, Yummy Morris with 10.7 PPG, and Sophia Ramos with 10.6 PPG.
- The Aztecs are ranked second in the Mountain West conference standings with their 6-1 record, winning all six of their games at home. They have an average scoring margin of +20.5 from their previous games, as the Dons will look to shut down a tough opponent on a neutral floor.
