SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's golf program and head coach
Sara Doell announced their schedule for the upcoming spring season on Friday morning.
"I am extremely excited about the spring schedule that we have put together," said Doell, who is the reigning West Coast Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
Kicking things off, USF will head south to Bakersfield for a chance to repeat their magic at The Valley Invitational on Feb. 6 + 7. Last year, the Dons won the tournament to capture their first team title under Doell as USF placed four individuals in the top ten, which helped the green and gold finish five strokes better than Grand Canyon in second and twelve strokes better than Cal Poly in third.
"We have the unique opportunity to defend our title in Bakersfield to start the spring," said Doell. "We played really well there last year and I look forward to guiding the team through the extra pressure they may feel in defending."
At the end of February, USF will trek to Sacramento for the Causeway Invitational on Feb. 27 + 28. Shortly thereafter, the Dons are set to co-host their annual Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational on Mar. 6 + 7 in Fairfax, Calif.
"We follow that with the Causeway Invitational and then our home event - the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational", said Doell. "Both are events that we have traditionally played well at."
Wrapping up their regular season with tournaments in back-to-back weeks, USF will head to Maui for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic from Mar. 27 through Mar. 29 followed by the Chevron Silverado Showdown from Apr. 3 through Apr. 5.
"After some time off for spring break, we have the chance to go to Hawai'i and then compete at Silverado – two new events on our schedule and both strong fields that will be great to prepare us to head into our conference championship" said Doell.
Hungry to get into the postseason as a team, the Dons will conclude their spring season at the West Coast Conference Championships in Bremerton, Wash. from Apr. 20 through Apr. 22.
"Overall, I believe we have a great schedule with a mix of strong fields and score-able golf courses that will give us a strong chance to make it to post season play," said Doell. "The team has worked hard this fall and they all have a strong plan for this off season to come back ready to go in January!"
This fall, USF recorded two top six finishes – fourth at the Golf Iconic Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. (Oct. 3-5) and sixth in the Coeur
D'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 18-20) in Coeur
D'Alene, Idaho.
