BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Leading from the start, the University of San Francisco women's golf team was crowned champions of the Valley Invitational at Bakersfield Country Club on Monday and Tuesday as the Dons finished first overall as a team to notch their first tournament victory under head coach
Sara Doell and their first tournament win since the Sacramento State Invitational in March of 2016.
TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
- Beginning their spring season, USF led after day one with a two-round total of 591 as a team, which was then followed by a 304 on Tuesday as the Dons captured the tournament title with a three-round total of 31-over-895. Overall, San Francisco finished five strokes better than second place Grand Canyon (36-over-900) and twelve strokes better than third place Cal Poly (43-over-907).
- Individually, four Dons finished in the top ten: Jade Siphomsay (tied for fifth, 8-over-224), Riana Mission (tied for fifth, 8-over-224), Toni St John (tied for eighth, 9-over-225) and Annika Borrelli (tied for tenth, 5-over-226).
- Rounding out the group, Toni Sottile placed in the top 25 for USF as the junior tied for twenty-first overall by finishing 4-over-232 across her three rounds.
UP NEXT:
USF will use the next few weeks to recover and regroup as the Dons will return to the course on Monday, Feb. 28 + Tuesday, Mar. 1 at the Gunrock Invitational (hosted by UC Davis) Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif.
