Dons Come Up Short Against Sun Devils

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Playing in the second game of a double header, the USF Dons baseball team (10-7) couldn't rally late as they lost the second game of their series with the Arizona State Sun Devils (7-9) 4-2 on Saturday evening at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

It was another game where the Dons got off to a quick start but couldn't maintain their lead later in the ball game. Kyle Knell hit his second home run of the season and Brandon Greim drove in a run with an RBI single to score Michael Campagna for USF's first run of the game.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • USF got on the board first courtesy of Greim's clutch two out single to center that scored Campagna to give the Dons the 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
  • Knell didn't waste much time adding on to the lead with his blast to left field giving USF the 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
  • Arizona State got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run.
  • The Sun Devils took the lead for good with a three run seventh inning as they went on to win by a 4-2 final score.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Weston Lombard delivered a strong outing making his fourth start as he threw a season high 6 1/3 innings allowing three runs and striking out six Sun Devil hitters on Saturday evening.
  • Knell had the blast of the night for USF with his fourth inning over the wall in left and into the Dons' bullpen for his second home run of the season.
  • Luke Keaschall, Harris Williams III, Campagna, Christian Stapleton, Greim and Darius Foster each recorded hits for the Dons as well against ASU.
