SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Following her stellar season in cross country and track and field, USF sophomore
Ruby Smee has been selected to participate in the 2022 Indoor Track National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on Mar. 11-12 hosted by the University of Alabama.
Smee becomes just the second Don in program history to compete in the Indoor National Championship and the first since
Aoibhe Richardson to represent USF. Ruby will be competing in the 5K as she continues her historic spring as she set the school record in the 3K and has twice beaten the program's record in the distance medley relay in 2022.Â
"Having Ruby qualify for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field National Championships is the icing on her historic indoor season cake," head coach
Tim Riley said. "She is in rare company as
Aoibhe Richardson is the only other Don to qualify for this meet in program history. The competition is the most difficult NCAA National Championship to make as an individual and I have the utmost confidence in Ruby's ability to race with the best."Â
Next weekend's competition will be a culmination of Smee's fantastic first full season on the Hilltop as she helped lead the indoor squad to fifth place team finish at the MPSF Championships.
