Mission Selected as Individual for NCAA Tournament

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Riana Mission, a standout freshman on the University of San Francisco women's golf team, was selected as an Individual Qualifier in the Stanford Regional for the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship.

"We are extremely proud of Riana for being selected as the top indiviudal in the Stanford region," said 2022 WCC Co-Coach of the Year Sara Doell. "This is a well-deserved result of all of the hard work and sacrifice Riana has put in since getting to the Hilltop. I also want to recognize our team as a whole as the current members laid the foundation for success since my arrival. Riana was able to come right in and hit the ground running, and none of this would have been possible without the group consistently pushing each other forward."

Mission, who is slotted as the top individual in the Stanford region, will join five other individuals at Stanford golf course. The 12-team region features No. 1 Stanford, No. 12 Southern California, No. 14 LSU, No. 24 Texas Tech, No. 25 Kentucky, No. 36 Iowa State, No. 37 Northwestern, No. 48, No. 51 UNLV, No. 68 Cal Poly, No. 82 Cal Poly and No. 183 Sacred Heart.

Six regional tournaments will be conducted May 9-11 to determine the championship finals field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition and all national championship policies apply.

A total of 72 teams and 36 individual participants have been selected for regional competition. Of the 396 players participating in the regionals, 132 will advance to the championship finals, with the top four teams and top two individuals (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional.

The national championships will be May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona hosted by Arizona State and The Thunderbirds. The final three days of the championships will be televised live by the GOLF Channel.

Mission, who was recently named to the All-WCC Women's Golf Team, has put together one of the most impressive freshman seasons at USF as the Las Vegas native has finished in the top ten in all six tournaments this spring, which included four straight finishes in the top five to begin the semester. Overall, Mission has recorded seven top ten finishes in the ten tournaments she has competed in as her lowest finish came when she tied for thirty-fifth at The Molly Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 27 + 28.

Heading into the tournament, Mission currently ranks No. 85 in Golfstat's NCAA Division I Individual Rankings.
