SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference officially announced the 2021-22 Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors with the end of the season on the horizon.
Following the program's strong spring season which included a finish in the WCC Championships semifinals,
Maria Martinez Vaquero and
Rita Colyer were selected to the All-WCC doubles second team in recognition of their tremendous spring on the court. Martinez Vaquero was also selected to the All-WCC second team for singles as she put together a strong season playing in the first position for USF.
Martinez Vaquero and Colyer each played in the number one spot for doubles posting a 6-9 overall record during the regular season as the pair also finished 3-3 against fellow WCC opponents. Both athletes were key pieces for the program's mid season six-match winning streak that coincided with the team's end of non-conference slate heading into West Coast Conference play.
Competing individually against the best player on every team the Dons faced, Martinez Vaquero compiled a 7-10 overall record as she battled hard for her team playing in the top spot. The sophomore from Spain has now made the All-WCC second team as an individual for back to back years as she continues to star during her time on the Hilltop.
Colyer the Canadian native was also an All-WCC doubles honorable mention last season playing with
Arianna Capogrosso before teaming up with Martinez Vaquero for the 2022 spring season.
