SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (9-11, 3-5) earned a 3-1 win over Santa Clara (9-11, 1-7) Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference contest at Leavey Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco began the first set by winning four of the first six points, led by kills from Maria Petkova and Kennedy Muckelroy and a Hayden Goodman solo block.
- The Broncos kept it close early on, using a 6-4 scoring run to quickly even the frame at eight. The Dons, however, responded with four straight points to gain a 12-8 advantage, led again offensively by Petkova and Muckelroy.
- The Dons never relinquished the lead throughout the remainder of the set and secured the frame, 25-19, with a final kill from Karolina Nova.
- San Francisco came out strong in the second set, with Nova and Muckelroy recording multiple kills to get the early lead, 7-1. Continuing to hold their advantage throughout the entire set, the Dons ended by winning seven of the last nine points, securing the second set, 25-18.
- Responding in the third set, Santa Clara took an early 5-1 lead and held onto the advantage throughout. Late in the set, the Dons responded with a four-point run, but the Broncos secured the set with a block assist to end it at 25-18.
- In the fourth set, San Francisco returned by going up 9-4 with kills from Muckelroy and Oldendorf, alongside Goodman recording a solo block and an ace to put them ahead. The Broncos fought back to tie the set at 14-14, but the Dons responded by going on a five-point scoring run, taking control of the set, 19-14.
- Finishing off the set, San Francisco secured their final six points, only conceding four, with Lindsay Oldendorf recording two kills and Abby Wadas putting the game to bed with a serving ace to end it 25-18.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Offensively, Petkova led the match with a team-high 11 kills and added three block assists for 12.5 points. Petkova continues to lead the team in total kills this season with 174.
- Muckelroy, a force on the offensive side of the ball, tallied 10 kills and five block assists, tying Petkova in total points with 12.5.
- Defensively, Wadas recorded 20 digs, the fifth time she has reached 20 or more digs in a match this season.

San Francisco will continue its stretch of road contests when the Dons face off against Saint Mary's, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the University Credit Union Pavilion.
