Dons Drop Hard-Fought Contest at Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (9-12, 3-6) dropped a hard fourth West Coast Conference contest on the road, falling to Saint Mary's (12-9, 6-3) 3-1 Saturday afternoon at the University Credit Union Pavilion.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- In a highly competitive opening set, the Dons battled to a narrow 12-11 lead midway through the frame. Maria Petkova led the team offensively through the early stages of the set, compiling two kills, while Kennedy Muckelroy, Karolina Nova, and Hayden Goodman contributed.
- The Gaels quickly pushed ahead, using a 9-3 scoring run to gain a five-point advantage, 20-15, later in the set. The Gaels eliminated a comeback effort from the Dons, holding on to a 25-21 first-set win.
- The Dons fell behind early in the second set as the Gaels won eight of the first 11 points. Trailing 8-3, the Dons bounced back with a 6-1 scoring run to tie the frame at nine. Lindsay Oldendorf recorded two kills from the middle blocker position during the run, while a solid defensive effort forced the Gaels into two attack errors.
- The frame remained close throughout the remainder of play, with neither team leading by more than three points. Trailing 18-17, the Dons grabbed the lead for good, using a 3-0 run and held a 20-18 advantage.
- Winning five of the final eight points of the set, the Dons evened the match at a set apiece with a 25-21 win.
- The Gaels took advantage in the final two sets of the match, winning a close 25-22 contest in the third set and cruising to a 25-14 four-set win to solidify the match.
- Petkova and Muckelroy led the team offensively, combining for 25 kills. Petkova's team-leading 15 marked the eighth time she has surpassed the double-digit kill threshold.
- Oldendorf and Goodman led the Dons' front line, with Oldendorf recording four block assists and one solo block. Goodman helped guide the team defensively, adding four block assists.
