SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Head coach
Chris Brown and the University of San Francisco men's soccer program announced the hiring of Robbie Rix as the program's new assistant coach on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are thrilled to announce Robbie as our new assistant coach," said Brown. "Robbie has a tremendous soccer IQ and is a UEFA qualified coach. He has a great presence about him on the training ground and is a phenomenal teacher of the game. He has proved that at every stop he has been and he continues to have great success, including most recently with the San Francisco Glens at MLS Next Level. We can't wait to get going with Robbie as we embark on the new season with a talented team."
Born in London, England, Rix played in the Arsenal Academy and was part of the Portsmouth youth team. Additionally, he also had stops at Luton and several semi-professional organizations.
Overall, Rix boasts coaching experience at the junior college and Division II levels. Notably, he spent three nonconsecutive years as an assistant at Foothill JC, where he was involved in two Final Fours. In fall 2021, Rix served as an assistant coach for the U19 San Francisco Glens MLS team that went to the finals of the MLS Next playoffs. In the summer of 2022, Rix was assistant coach of the San Francisco Glens USL 2 team, who reached the Western Conference Finals as a top 16 team in the country.
Most recently, Rix took over the head coaching position and led the 2022-23 Glens to a second-place finish in the Northwest division, which included winning their group in Maryland at the MLS Next Flex tournament. Notably, Rix also led this group to the national round of 16 in the MLS Next playoffs.
"I am really excited and honored to be given the opportunity to work at such a prestigious school and soccer program with great people," said Rix. "I can't wait to start working with this promising group of student-athletes that we have here at USF."
San Francisco is set to begin their 2023 season on Thursday, Aug. 24 when they host Utah Tech at Negoesco Stadium at 7:00 pm.
