Regular Season Recap: 2023-24 San Francisco Men's Basketball

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco men's basketball team saw historic success on the hardwood this regular season, which included notching 20+ wins for the seventh straight campaign (excluding the COVID season in 2020-21).

The following bullet points feature some of the main highlights by the Dons this year:

1. San Francisco's 22 wins are tied for the sixth-most regular season wins in the program's 97-year history.

2. For the first time since the program returned from shutdown in 1985, the Dons notched three wins over Power conference teams in the same season. These wins included: 
  • First SEC win since 1981
  • First Big Ten win since 2004
  • First Big East win since 2013
3. Chris Gerlufsen's nonconference winning percentage of 73.3 percent is the best through two years of any head coach in program history.

4. San Francisco finished in the top three in the WCC for the first time since 2013-14. USF's eleven conference victories are tied for the second-most since 1981-82.

5. The Dons had a school-record five separate players selected for All-WCC honors, including: 6. For the first time in the NET era, San Francisco finished the regular season without a Quad 3 or Quad 4 loss. They are 1 of 35 teams in the nation with this distinction. 

7. The Dons finished the regular season ranked nineteenth in the country in scoring margin: 
  • Offense: San Francisco finished second in the WCC in points per game, despite losing its top three scorers & 67 percent of its points from 2022-23.
  • Defense: The Dons climbed 98 spots in KenPom defensive efficiency from 2022-23 (the fourth largest jump of any Top 40 defense).
