SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Head coach
Chris Gerlufsen and the University of San Francisco men's basketball program announced the addition of forward Karl Markus Poom (Tartu, Estonia) on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
"Karl is going to be a great addition to our program," said Gerlufsen. "He brings multiple years of high-level European basketball experience to USF. With his skill, I see him being a physical presence for us while also possessing an advanced offensive game. We place tremendous value on versatile frontcourt players and Karl will continue the trend of successful forwards that have come before him."
Â
Standing at 6-8, Poom is a dynamic forward who most recently played for Estonia in the FIBA U20 Eurobasket as he averaged 8.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Notably, his 10.0 rebounds per game were good for fifth in the event.
Â
Additionally, he also recently played for club teams Monferrato and Rieti Real, who both compete in the Serie A2 league in Italy.
Â
In 2023, Poom averaged 13.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 28.3 minutes per game for Estonia in the FIBA U20 European Championship.
Â
Overall, Poom joins Veniamin Abosi (Heraklion, Greece),
Carlton Linguard Jr. (UTSA),
Jason Rivera-Torres (Vanderbilt),
James O'Donnell (Centre of Excellence) and
Tyrone Riley Jr. (St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy) as the sixth member of San Francisco's 2024 recruiting class.
