Dons Get Back on Track, Secure Sixth Shutout in Win Over Bulldogs

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's soccer team (6-3-1, 1-2-0 WCC) got back to its winning ways on Friday night as the Dons defeated Gonzaga (3-5-2, 0-2-1 WCC), 1-0, at Negoesco Stadium to pick up its sixth shutout of the season.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • Brayden Beason wasted no time converting early opportunities when Ben Norris delivered a beautiful ball to the sprinting forward 3/4 downfield, followed by Beason blasting his fifth goal of the season past the opposing keeper, Chema Preciado, at 5:08 despite the defense being draped all over him.
  • The rest of the opening period proved to be fairly equal, with San Francisco holding the advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes, 6-4.
  • The Dons continued to apply pressure on their home turf in the second half, including a screamer from Jaggar Judkins at 51:37, who was celebrating his birthday on Friday. Unfortunately, Preciado got the best of the green and gold this time, turning away Judkins.
  • USF played as a unit for the remainder of the match, not allowing Gonzaga to find its rhythm all night. Outshooting the Bulldogs in the second half, 10-6, San Francisco held on to take down Gonzaga, 1-0, on the Hilltop.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Beason's goal marked his fifth of the campaign, moving him into a tie for fifth in the West Coast Conference (WCC) in goals. He is now also sixth in the conference in shots on goal (12) and tied for sixth in both points (11) and shots (25) after the match.
  • Elevend different Dons tallied at least one shot on Friday night, with Beason leading the charge with three. Eight of San Francisco's 16 shots came on target.
  • Lucas Jones recorded three saves for the Dons, his sixth straight match with three or more saves.
  • Kian Jones logged his first start in the green and gold this fall against Gonzaga.
