SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -The University of San Francisco (USF) volleyball team (2-11, 0-3 WCC) could not outplay a potent Pepperdine (8-6, 2-1 WCC) offense on Thursday night, falling to the Waves, 3-0, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco raced out to an early 7-3 lead, followed by a 6-0 run midway through the opening set to take a commanding 15-6 advantage. The Dons quickly pushed the gap to 18-7, but Pepperdine flipped the script and ripped off an 18-3 run of their own to jump in front and ultimately take the first set, 25-23.
- The two teams were fairly even out of the gates in the second set, but Pepperdine found some rhythm once more and used a 4-0 run to go on top, 12-6. Shortly thereafter, the Waves extended their lead to 21-13, but the Dons answered with six straight points to climb back with one, 22-21. Coming down to the wire, Pepperdine hung on to secure set two, 25-23.
- Similar to the second set, USF and Pepperdine were knotted up early in the third set, 5-5. The Waves stayed consistent in their attack in the points to follow, piecing together an 8-2 run to catapult themselves back in front, 19-11. Despite a final few points from San Francisco, Pepperdine went on to grab the third set, 25-14, and the match.
