SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) women's soccer team (2-6-3, 1-2-1 WCC) got back in the win column on Wednesday night as a first-half goal from Lindsey Chau helped lift the Dons over Oregon State (1-7-4, 0-4-0 WCC), 1-0, at Negoesco Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Kaitlyn Sasadeusz fired the first shot of the night for San Francisco at 8:17, but was ultimately denied by Mya Sanchez, the WCC's leader in saves.
- The Dons broke the 0-0 tie when Lindsey Chau scored her third goal of the season in the 26th minute, assisted by Hannah Burns. This would prove to be the only goal of the match and the game-winner for USF.
- Oregon State ramped up its attack in the second half, firing off twelve shots in the second period, but the green and gold continued to keep the Beavers off the scoreboard.
- Defense reigned supreme for San Francisco down the stretch, with Tyra Bengtsson-Stenseth turning away Oregon State's final shot on frame at 82:19. The Dons would hold on until the final whistle, securing the 1-0 shutout victory on Wednesday night.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Sasadeusz finished with a new season and career-high nine shots. Alicia Osegueda (5), Hannah Burns (4), Chau (3), and Sydney Harpster (3) all also recorded multiple shots for USF.
- Bengtsson-Stenseth recorded six saves for the green and gold out of 19 total Beavers shots.
- San Francisco totaled 27 shots in total, marking a new season-high. 11 of these 27 shots were on goal, the second-highest mark for the Dons this season. Defensively, USF held Oregon State to just six shots on goal out of 19 total shots.
- The win over the Beavers marks San Francisco's first win over Oregon State since a 2-1 victory on Sept. 24, 2004. Notably, this was also the last time USF had defeated the Beavers at home in San Francisco.
