Women's Basketball Adds Todd Kent as Assistant Coach

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team and Head Coach Molly Goodenbour have announced that Todd Kent has joined the program's coaching staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

"We are extremely fortunate to add Todd to our coaching staff," Goodenbour said. "He has been exceptional at every place he has coached—most recently leading UC Santa Cruz to unprecedented levels of success. Todd has a unique ability to connect with young people and positively impact them on and off the court, and we are thrilled about his decision to join our program."

Kent joins the coaching staff on the Hilltop following a successful 13-year head coaching career at UC Santa Cruz, leading the women's basketball program. Throughout his time with the Banana Slugs, Kent compiled a 169-148 record, the best overall record in program history, registered 10 seasons with double-digit victories, and earned two Division III NCAA Women's Basketball Championship appearances in 2016 and 2017.

Following his retirement from coaching in 2023, Kent moved into an administrative role at UC Santa Cruz, serving as the program director for physical education and sports performance.

Before taking over as the 12th head coach in UC Santa Cruz women's basketball history in May 2009, Kent spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Seattle U, helping the program to an overall record of 46-20. During his second season with the Redhawks, the team finished 20-9 during their first year transitioning to Division I.

Kent also spent time at La Salle High School in Yakima, Wash., where he was the Dean of Students, a teacher, and head girls basketball coach. In five seasons at La Salle, he posted a record of 106-23, led the program to a Class B State Championship title in 2006, and was named Seattle Times Washington State B Girls Coach of the Year.

He began his coaching career in 1994 with the South Puget Sound Community College men's basketball program.

A graduate of Eastern Washington, Kent earned a bachelor's degree in recreation and leisure service management and received his master's in teaching from Heritage University in 2003. His wife Stephanie is an alumnus of the University of San Francisco's nursing program, graduating top of her class in 2001, and is currently the CEO of Sutter Surgery and Maternity Center Hospital in Santa Cruz.
