TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team (6-3) closed out the Briann January Classic Saturday afternoon, falling at Arizona State (10-0) at Mullett Arena.
Candy Edokpaigbe led San Francisco throughout the contest, with 17 points and five steals. Olivia Williams, Noelia Mouriño, and Sol Castro also contributed offensively, combining for 13 points.
Defensively, the green and gold forced 24 Arizona State turnovers, turning those takeaways into 17 points.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco opened the game on a 7-2 scoring run, with three players getting into the action offensively. Mouriño scored the first basket of the game while Mara Neira and Edokpaigbe extended the lead to four at the 6:59 mark.
- Arizona State responded and recorded the final basket of the opening 10 minutes to tie the game at 13.
- The Sun Devils then took control in the second quarter as the Dons trailed at the halftime break, 31-20.
- The deficit continued to grow in the third quarter as Arizona State outscored San Francisco 19-12 and led, 50-32.
- San Francisco failed to pull any closer in the fourth, falling 67-44. The Dons took advantage of their opportunities in the post, scoring eight of their 12 points in the paint throughout the final 10 minutes.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Edokpaigbe led the team with 17 points, while matching a season-best five steals.
- The San Francisco bench made an impact, scoring 18 points, led by Williams' five.
- As a team, the Dons forced 24 turnovers, tied for the second most this season.

San Francisco returns to the Hilltop at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, when it hosts Colorado State at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
