SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The No. 20 University of San Francisco (USF) men's soccer team (5-1-1) extended its unbeaten streak to five straight matches on Monday night as the Dons dominated Sacramento State (1-6-1), 3-0, at Negoesco Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco started the scoring when Owen Benson scored his first goal of the season in the 36th minute, assisted on a through ball from David Raphael.
- The Dons took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Zane Alafranji -Â his first goal of the season -Â in the 48th minute when the forward capitalized on a Sacramento State defender lost control of the ball near the box. USF pounded Sacramento State offensively in the opening half, outshooting the Hornets 14-3 overall.
- San Francisco extend its lead to 3-0 when Chris Maldonado, who was celebrating his birthday on Monday, netted his first goal of the season in the 87th minute following an assist from Adrian Medina.
- Neither team scored again in the game as the Dons went on to pick up their fourth straight shutout and third win at home this season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Lucas Jones recorded three saves for the Dons out of six total Hornets shots.
- Benson's goal marked his first in the green and gold after transferring from Saint Mary's last spring.
- San Francisco outshot Sacramento State 23-6 overall, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- USF picked up its fourth straight shutout and fifth overall this season. The Dons have not allowed their opponent to score since a penalty kick goal in the 56th minute at California on Aug. 28, with No. 11 Indiana being the last team to score on San Francisco during the run of play on Aug. 24.
