DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters its final West Coast Conference contest in Pullman following an 82-69 loss at Gonzaga last Thursday at the McCarthy Athletic Center.
- Candy Edokpaigbe impressed in 39 minutes of action, scoring a team-high 24 points and securing eight rebounds. Edokpaigbe reached the 20-point threshold for the fifth time this season while shooting 47.4 percent (nine-for-19) from the field, increasing her team-leading scoring average to 16.9 points per game.
- Aina Cargol added 13 points and six assists, recording her fourth straight double-figure scoring performance and the fifth consecutive contest with at least five assists. Through six WCC games, Cargol is averaging 5.7 assists, only trailing Santa Clara's Ashley Hawkins (7.0), Portland's Rhyan Mogel (6.2), and Oregon State's Kennedie Shuler (6.0) for the best average in conference play this season.
- As a team, San Francisco forced Gonzaga into 19 turnovers while recording 13 steals. Nataša Taušová led the Dons as she matched a career-high in steals with four, while Edokpaigbe added three. In 17 games this season, the Dons rank fourth in the WCC in steals at 9.41, only trailing Portland (11.4), Saint Mary's (10.4), and Santa Clara (10.1).
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
- Washington State entered West Coast Conference play with a 1-12 overall record, with the lone victory coming in a narrow 71-67 decision over Miami (OH) in the semifinal round of the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Cougars, losing six straight to open the season, faced off against multiple top teams in Division I, including No. 5 LSU, (RV) Stanford, (RV) Texas Tech, Oregon, Missouri, BYU, UNLV, Seton Hall, and Penn.
- Eleonora Villa, in her third season with the program, has become the face as she leads the team in scoring (17.9), assists (66), steals (19), and field goal percentage (.464). In 20 games this season, Villa has scored 20 or more points nine times, including a career-best 29 points against Santa Clara on January 10. She ranks second in the WCC in scoring, only trailing Gonzaga's Lauren Whittaker (19.9). In 90 total games, Villa has compiled 1,285 career points, 15th most in program history.
- After missing 11 games, Alex Covill returned for the start of conference play and produced an impressive 26-point, 10-rebound performance, her first-career 20-point double-double on the road at Seattle U on Sunday, Jan. 4. In just seven games played this season, Covill ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game and second in rebounding at 4.9.
- Washington State has had four players this season compile 14 20+ scoring performances, with Eleonora Ville totaling nine. Charlotte Abraham and Alex Covill have scored 20 or more twice, and Keandra Koorits scored 23 in her first-career game against Idaho on November 3.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco and Washington State have met 13 times in the history of the two programs, with the Cougars holding an 11-2 advantage.
- In the first two meetings during the 1980-81 and 1982-83 seasons, the Dons dominated the Cougars, outscoring their opponent 142-113, and averaging 71.0 points per game.
- Since the green and gold's two victories to begin the all-time series, Washington State has won 11 straight, including the first two meetings as conference opponents in 2024-25.
