DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Ending a three-game skid, San Francisco got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a 92-79 victory on the road at San Diego, courtesy of a second-half burst from the green and gold. The Dons scored a season-high 56 second-half points, shooting 68.2 percent from the field in the period, and a season-best 58.3 percent from the floor for the game.
  • Vukasin Masic (22 points) and Guillermo Diaz Graham (17 points) both set new season-highs in scoring in the win over the Toreros, including Diaz Graham sinking a career-high eight free throws while also shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
  • Stuffing the stat sheet once again, David Fuchs scored 21 points and a season-high-tying 13 rebounds to notch his seventh double-double of the season, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe to go with three assists and two steals in a season-high 35 minutes of action. Fuchs' seven double-doubles are tied for the third-most by a West Coast Conference (WCC) player this season.
  • After shooting 3-for-6 from deep against the Toreros, Legend Smiley has continued to establish himself as one of the elite freshman shooters in the nation, as he is one of nine freshmen across Division I with at least 40 made three-pointers while shooting 40.0 percent or better from beyond the arc.
  • Heading into the penultimate week of conference play, USF sits one game behind Pacific for fourth place in the WCC standings. After Wednesday night's Battle with Gonzaga, the Dons will host Santa Clara on Saturday night (Feb. 21) in their final regular season home game before traveling to Stockton to take on Pacific next Saturday, Feb. 28.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
  • After suffering its first loss of conference play two weeks ago at Portland, Gonzaga has won three straight games by an average margin of 19.3 points. Last time out, the Bulldogs secured a statement win on the road at Santa Clara, taking down the Broncos, 94-86, on Saturday night to recapture first place in the WCC standings.
  • Three Zags scored 20-plus points in the win over SCU in graduate students Graham Ike (21 points), Adam Miller (21 points), and Tyon Grant-Foster (20 points). As a team, GU shot 56.3 percent from the field against the Broncos, their best team field goal percentage in conference play so far this season. Notably, the Bulldogs dominated inside the arc, shooting 33-for-46 (71.4 percent) on two-point field goals.
  • Making a statement in his final year with Gonzaga, Ike leads the league in scoring at 19.8 points per game, shooting 57.9 percent from the field on the year to go along with 8.7 rebounds per game (second in WCC). Within conference play, Ike ranks first in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 22.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in league action.
  • In its final campaign as members of the conference, Gonzaga leads the league in points per game (87.6), scoring margin (20.4), field goal percentage (51.5), opponent field goal percentage (40.0), rebounding (41.2), assists per game (18.5), and turnover margin (4.85) as of Tuesday afternoon.
  • This season will mark the end of Gonzaga's 47-year tenure in the WCC, as the Bulldogs will transition into the newly-realigned Pac-12 Conference at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • San Francisco and Gonzaga will face off at Chase Center for a third consecutive season on Wednesday night in the 101st meeting between the two programs, with the Bulldogs holding a 78-22 all-time series advantage.
  • In their first meeting this season, USF almost completed a late comeback in Spokane on Jan. 24, nearly erasing a 10-point deficit in the final two minutes. Despite a good look from the wing, Junjie Wang narrowly missed a potential game-winning three-pointer as GU squeezed out a 68-66 victory in The Kennel. The Dons will have one final crack at taking down Gonzaga, seeking their first victory over the Bulldogs since Dec. 18, 2012, which would put an end to a 13-year, 34-game skid against GU.
