A. Summary
The Dons Honor Club initiative began in 2017 and is an alumni group whose mission is to engage and connect former students across different sports, generations and geographical areas in an attempt to build and foster an on-going association with USF Athletics. It’s through this initiative alumni will help preserve USF traditions, support current student-athletes and stay connected to the Hilltop. This group provides a way to establish an expansive network of Dons Honor Club members and provide mentorship opportunities to current USF student-athletes.
 
B. Governance and Structure
As a chartered and recognized university support group, the Dons Honor Club Board of Directors operates under a charter from the university. A support group is any group, organization, foundation, or association whose primary purpose is to (1) provide assistance through fundraising, public outreach, and other support for the university's mission; or (2) whose representatives or activities make the entity indistinguishable from the university itself; or (3) that acts as an agent of or intermediary for the university. Support groups typically operate with some affiliation or collaboration with the university to raise gift funds and/or provide public support for the mission, vision and values of the university.
 
C. Dons Honors Club Membership
All former students who have competed for a minimum of one year in an intercollegiate sport are eligible, as are team managers and spirit squad members who compiled at least three years of service as an undergraduate. Membership in this club will be sponsored by the Athletic Department.
 
D. Athletic Staff Responsibilities
  • Serve as an advocate for the success and well-being of Dons Honors Club members
  • Schedule meetings according to the group’s availability
  • Manage all logistics for mailings, emails, event registration, etc. as it relates to the event or activities
  • Report university news, current events and updates on a regular basis
 
E. Dons Honors Club Board of Directors Responsibilities
  • Make every effort to attend events that have been planned or sponsored by the Athletic Department
  • Members are encouraged, but not required, to make an annual gift, of any size, to the Dons Fund.
  • Leverage personal networks to continually increase event attendance, membership of Dons Honors Club and overall connectedness to the university and athletic department
  • Represent the interests and concerns pertinent to the alumni in your region as the voice of alumni in your area
  • Each team will appoint one to two representative(s) to the Board of Directors
