Tagg Bozied, The Callan Family, Richard Dwyer, Mark
McCathrion and Dag Olavson Honored for Their Standout Careers
Representing the University of San Francisco
(San Francisco) – The University of San Francisco celebrated
the accomplishments of some of its best and brightest at the 2010
Fr. Hubert "Hub" Flynn Hall of Fame Dinner Saturday
Night as part of the Fall Fest Weekend. Four USF student-athletes
and one family were inducted in an outstanding tribute in front of
more than 200 friends, family, supporters and alumni.
USF Legend of the Hilltop and three-time baseball All-American
Taggert Bozied ('01), World Figure Skating Hall-of-Famer Richard
Dwyer ('74), basketball star Mark McCathrion and career
soccer scoring leader Dag Olavson ('80) comprised the
four-member Class of 2010, the 51st overall. In addition, the
Callan Family – Terry, Gail and Ryan – received the
inaugural "Don of the Year Award" for sterling service
to USF Athletics.
After a video tribute celebrating their accomplishments on the
field and off, each inductee spoke and reminisced about their
experiences representing the Green and Gold. Each member of the
hall of fame class of 2010 touched on some of the core values of
Jesuit education. Bozied emphasized family, Dwyer spoke about
education and Olavson spoke about the importance of the team.
McCathrion was unable to attend but his coach, USF Hall-of-Famer
Jim Brovelli, discussed his former star's dedication to the
program.

BASEBALL
Taggert Bozied, '01 (Denver, CO) - USF Legend, Taggert
Bozied turned in the most prolific offensive career in Diamond Dons
history and became the first USF player to capture West Coast
Conference Player of the Year honors after launching a then-record
30 home runs as a sophomore in 1999. A three-time All-American,
Bozied is the USF career leader in multiple statistical categories,
including hits (287) home runs (60), RBI (222) and runs
(213).
SPECIAL CATEGORY
Richard Dwyer, '74 – Skating legend Richard
Dwyer devoted his life to the sport of figure skating as an amateur
and later as "Mr. Debonair" as a professional
barnstormer during a 30 year career in the Ice Capades and Ice
Follies. The 1946 Pacific Coast Juvenile Men's Champion, the
1948 US National Novice Men's Champion and the 1949 US Junior
Men's Champion, Dwyer was inducted into the United States and
World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1993.
BASKETBALL
Mark McCathrion, '89 (Oakland, CA) – Local
product turned in strong career as one of the top players to wear
the Green and Gold after basketball resumed on the Hilltop. The
versatile player performed a variety of roles and departed campus
ranked ninth among career leaders in scoring (1,376/13.2) and was
17th in rebounds (641/6.2). McCathrion established a career-high
with 35 points in a 123-109 victory against LMU
(2/25/89).
SOCCER
Dag Olavson, '80 (Oslo, Norway) – A prolific
offensive weapon, Dag Olavson helped USF to a pair of NCAA
Championships (1978, 80) and finished his career as the all-time
leader in points (128) and ranked second in goals (48) and assists
(32). During his standout career in the Green and Gold, the Dons
posted a remarkable 99-8-4 record for a .910 winning percentage.
Olavson registered a career-high 17 goals as a sophomore.
