Young Dons Tackle Cougars in Provo In WCC Action

THIS WEEK: San Francisco travels to the Rockies to take on Brigham Young in Provo Saturday, November 5 in its lone match of the week. It will be the second match against the Cougars in nine days after going nearly 30 years since the last meeting. The contest will be televised nationally on BYUtv and streamed live on byutvsports.com. First serve is set for 6:00 PM (PT).
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES: San Francisco enters the second to last week of the 2011 regular season at 13-11 overall and 5-6 in the West Coast Conference. Last season the Dons went 5-22, 3-11 in league play.
JUST HOW YOUNG? Entering the seventh week of West Coast Conference play, USF is sixth in the league standings, one game behind Saint Mary's and Loyola Marymount at 6-6. The Dons are doing it with youth. The Green and Gold starts two juniors: OH Alycia Cox and OH Jocelyn Levig, two sophomores: S Joan Caloiaro and MB Malina Terrell and three freshmen: LIB Rebecca Kopilovitch, OPP Vendula Strakova and MB Valentina Zaloznik.
SERIES AGAINST THE COUGARS: Brigham Young (19-7, 8-4 WCC) leads the all-time series against San Francisco 3-0 after taking a 3-1 victory last Thurdsday at War Memorial Gym. Before this season, the last meeting between the Dons and Cougars came during the 1982 campaign.

DONS AMONG WCC TEAM LEADERS: San Francisco ranks among the top-four among West Coast Conference team leaders in three of the seven major statistical categories (as of 10/31/11). The Dons rate fourth in hitting percentage (.226), fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.187) and are second in aces (1.39).
LEADING THE LOOP IN DIGS: San Francisco leads the West Coast Conference in digs (15.57) for the fifth straight week during league matches. The Dons also rate third in kills (13.36).
YOUNG DONS MAKING A MARK: Five San Francisco underclassmen are ranked among West Coast Conference overall individual leaders so far this season (as of 10/31/11).
