Young Dons Showcase Talent Saturday in Annual Negoesco Scrimmage

(San Francisco) – USF men's soccer kicked off training sessions for the 2011 season with two practices on Wednesday and Thursday at Negoesco Stadium. The Dons feature a roster loaded with no fewer than 17 talented newcomers to go along with an experienced core of veteran players in what promises to be an exciting season of soccer on the Hilltop.
San Francisco welcomes back just seven upperclassmen, headlined by junior goalkeeper and two-year starter Brendan Roslund, junior defender Samir Najmeh, junior midfielder Vinny Caloiaro and senior defender Kevin Orozco. The Dons return eight starters from their 2010 squad, including four sophomores – defender Fred Loechen, midfielders Vergard Karlsen and Mauricio Diaz De Leon and forward Tanner Smith.
USF enters camp with more than 35 on its active roster, which includes more than 20 newcomers and returning redshirts. The 2011 Dons roster features nine international student-athletes.
NEGOESCO SCRIMMAGE: USF men's soccer hosts its annual Negoesco Scrimmage Saturday, August 13 with a full slate of activities. The action starts at 10: AM with an alumni match, followed by a free youth clinic at 11:00 AM. After a noon reception, the scrimmage will start at 1:00 PM. Fans and alumni will have the opportunity to meet the entire team and talk with the coaching staff as they preview what promises to be another exciting soccer season on the Hilltop.
REGULAR SEASON OPENER ON THE HORIZON: USF men's soccer kicks off the 2011 regular season Friday, August 26 when it welcomes ancient Bay Area rival No. 9 Cal to the Hilltop. Match time against the Golden Bears is set for 7:00 PM.
