(San Francisco) Three members of the San Francisco baseball team have been ranked as one of the top prospects in their summer league, as announced by Baseball America and Perfect Game. Junior Kyle Zimmer, sophomore Jordan Haseltine and senior Matt Chavez all earned acknowledgements.

"We are so very proud of Kyle, Matt and Jordan," said USF Head Coach Nino Giarratano. "They have worked hard at becoming better players each and everyday. Anytime your players go out and work at their craft it sure helps the program."

Zimmer highlights the trio, earning a top-10 ranking in the talent-rich Cape Cod League. The pitcher was ranked eighth by Baseball America and 14th by Perfect Game. Zimmer spent the summer pitching for the Cotuit Kettleers, where he posted a 3.38 earned run average in 10 appearances, eight of which were starts. In 48 innings pitched, Zimmer allowed 19 runs and 18 earned on 41 hits, while striking out 37.

Last season for the Dons, the native of La Jolla, Calif., was a 2011 All-West Coast Conference First Team selection and a NCAA Los Angeles Regional Team honoree. During the NCAA Regional, Zimmer threw his first complete game shutout in a Dons' uniform, allowing just four hits while striking out 11 to earn a 3-0 win over then-No. 12 UCLA.

Haseltine was named the No. 17 prospect out of the Northwoods League by Perfect Game. He was also ranked No. 18 in the league by Baseball America. A pitcher for the La Crosse Loggers, the native of Vacaville, Calif., appeared in 13 contests, pitching 25 innings and allowing 15 hits while recording 24 strikeouts.

Rounding out the Dons earning recognition, Chavez was listed as the No. 5 player out of the New York Collegiate League by Baseball America. The senior utility player from Burlington, Calif., spent the summer playing for the Oneonta Outlaws. At the plate, Chavez hit .333 with 47 hits, including a dozen doubles, three triples and two home runs, while scoring 23 runs and driving in 29. On the mound, he posted a 1.59 earned run average in 11.1 innings pitched.
