SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The San Francisco men's soccer team was handed its second home loss of the season after falling to San Diego 2-0 at Negoesco Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Dons (5-5-2, 3-3-0 WCC) fell behind in the match in the 30th minute despite USF goalkeeper Brendan Roslund's best efforts. San Diego's Dan Delgado earned a penalty kick that was batted away by the gloves of Roslund. The ball found its way back to the foot of Delgado for another shot attempt that was also denied by the Dons senior keeper. However, the Toreros third attempt by Patrick Wallen hit the mark for the eventual game-winning goal.

Six minutes later, the Dons had their own shot at a penalty kick conversion, but Mauricio Diaz De Leon's best effort was stopped by USD's Drew Ilijevski to keep USF off the board. Diaz de Leon, a junior from San Diego, Calif., leads the team with four goals and 10 points on the season.

The match remained 1-0 until the 73rd minute when Delgado took a corner kick for USD. The ball went off the chest of Wallen to the foot of Sergio Lopez. Lopez, the current WCC Player of the Week, booted in the goal to give the Toreros their second score of the afternoon.

USD outshot the Dons 14-11, with a 6-4 advantage in on-goal attempts. Miguel Aguilar finished the day with three shot attempts for USF while Michael Shaddock and Diaz de Leon each finished with two shots. Both Roslund and Ilijevski had four saves apiece in goal.

With the win, USD stands at 7-6-0 with a 5-1-0 mark in conference play, and shares the top spot in the standings with Santa Clara.

The Dons now have a bye week before returning to the pitch on Oct. 26, to face this very same Toreros squad in San Diego.
