USF Sweeps Portland Behind Levig's 13 Kills

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –  Jocelyn Levig had 13 kills while Valentina Zaloznik and Ester de Vries added nine each to lead USF to a straight victory over the visiting Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference match in Memorial Gymnasium.
 
The Dons straight set victory came by the game scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-17.
 
The win improves USF's record to 13-9 overall and 4-5 in the WCC, while Portland falls to 6-18 and 0-10 in conference play.
 
USF hit .308 for the match, including .444 in the third game, while limiting the Pilots to a .061 hitting percentage for the three games.
 
Levig's 13 kills came on 34 attempts with just three errors for a .294 hitting percentage. Zaloznik hit at a .500 clip for the match with nine kills in 16 attempts and just one error, while de Vries finished at .412 for the three games.
 
Malina Terrell also had eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage for the Dons.
 
Ariel Usher and Bea Loper had seven kills apiece to pace the Pilot attack.
 
In game one, the two teams were tied 7-7 but USF outscored Portland 18-5 down the stretch for a 25-12 victory.
 
Game two was tightly contested, with USF holding a slim, 22-20 lead. The Dons won three of the next four points for the final 25-21 count.
 
The two teams were tied at 9-9 in game three before USF went on a 7-2 run to take a 16-11 lead. Portland drew no closer than four points down the stretch as the Dons finished the sweep, winning 25-17.
 
USF will return to action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Moraga to face Saint Mary's beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Dons will close out the season by playing five of its last six matches at home, beginning with next Thursday's showdown with Santa Clara.
